オックスフォード郊外にある全寮制の男子校アビンドン・スクールの生徒だった5人は、1985年にバンド「On A Friday」を結成。1991年にParlophoneと契約、バンド名を「Radiohead」に変更し、92年にシングル「Drill」でメジャーデビュー。2003年6月までにParlophone/EMIから6枚のアルバムをリリース、契約終了後は大手レーベルを離れ、2007年12月にXL Recordingsから7枚目のアルバムを発表している。3thアルバム「OK Computer」、4thアルバム「Kid A」はそれぞれ1998年、2001年のグラミー賞最優秀オルタナティヴ・アルバム賞に輝いた。ブリティッシュ・ロック、エレクトロニカ、ジャズや現代音楽など、様々な要素を内包した唯一無二の音楽性。トム・ヨークの創りだす怒りや皮肉、諦観を込めた歌詞と、その独特な世界観を十二分に表現しうる天性の歌声。ダイナミックなライヴパフォーマンスも含め、音楽ファンはもとより、ミュージシャンや批評家などからも高い評価を得ている。2007年10月に7枚目のアルバム「In Rainbows」を”購入者希望価格制度”にてウェブ配信を開始し、12月にはCD２枚とLPがセットになった「In Rainbows」のDiscboxが限定発売された。この類を見ない革新的な販売方法によってバンドは翌年、Time誌の「世界で最も影響力のある100人」に選出された。2008年5月からはツアーを開始、10月には追加分を含む計6日間の来日公演が4年ぶりに実現し、日本のファンを沸かせた。
